60 years of Katzbeck

Family business Katzbeck celebrates its 60th birthday

The family business Katzbeck has been synonymous with dependability, experience and quality for six decades. “Our motivated staff, superior technologies, outstanding design and permanent innovation from our in-house production facilities make us Austria’s prime specialist for wood/aluminium and wooden windows”, says a clearly delighted managing director Daniela Katzbeck on the occasion of a very special company anniversary. The in-house design, research and development staff at the company headquarters and production facility in Rudersdorf, at the plant in Neudorf bei Ilz and in the Window Studios satisfy these high standards.

The success story of this Burgenland company group started in 1950. “As a small construction and furniture carpentry in the basement, with home-made machinery and a rented planing machine”, says the partner Hans Peter Katzbeck, looking back. He took over the company from his father, Franz Katzbeck, in 1970. The company built its new home six years later on the edge of town: with 3,500 square metres of production space. It was from there that the company with the ‘cat logo’ ventured out to conquer the domestic window and door market, always with an eye to providing successful bespoke solutions instead of off-the-peg windows.

The anniversary saw the launch of PROFILA, the innovative new wood/aluminium window as an elegant classic for any architectural style.
Katzbeck currently has over 220 employees, including thirteen apprentices. Revenue in 2009 was €25.3 million for around 40,000 manufactured windows.
Roughly two thirds of the workforce started their professional lives as apprentices in the company, and many have since risen to executive positions. Once Hans Peter Katzbeck retires, his three daughters Daniela, Nina and Kristina will continue the company in the third generation.

The future of the family business also looks bright. There are plans to expand the production facilities by 1,700 square metres and to install new machinery. The window specialist intends to continue expanding at the same time.

Hans Peter Katzbeck – once an active athlete and mayor of Rudersdorf – is everything other than ‘obsolete’, as he frequently emphasises: Instead he shows a deft hand at establishing business contacts abroad.

A big family celebrated
Governor Hans Niessl, Deputy Governor Franz Steindl, the MPs Helmut Sampt, Ewald Schnecker and Franz Majcen, the two mayors Franz Eduard Tauss and Werner Gutzwar (Fürstenfeld) and many other faithful companions were invited to the company’s own 60-year anniversary gala at the conference centre in Loipersdorf, which was attended by around 300 fellow entrepreneurs and guests.
ORF TV presenter Melanie Balaskovics compered the evening.

Governor Hans Niessl and Deputy Governor Franz Steindl awarded Hans Peter Katzbeck the Grand Decoration of Honour in Recognition of Services to the State of Burgenland, emphasising the immense regional significance of the Leading Company Katzbeck.

Chamber of Commerce President Peter Nemeth and Director of the Burgenland Chamber of Commerce Anton Bubits awarded the anniversary certificate for the company’s 60th anniversary with gratitude and recognition of special services to the Burgenland economy.

Mayor F. E. Tauss gave his predecessor the Keys to the County Town of Rudersdorf.

Longstanding Katzbeck employees were also honoured during the ceremony for their many years of service and loyalty.

Besides Hans Peter Katzbeck and the employees of the Katzbeck Group, the event also focused on the members of the new management team, comprising the managing directors and family members Daniela, Nina and Kristina, the managing directors Manfred Deutsch and Manfred Wolf, and the company officers Günter Fritz and Jürgen Damhösl.
